KTH’s Bariatric Surgery Masterclass, paving the way for surgical innovation.

The third Bariatric Surgery Masterclass kicked off on November 12, 2024, at Khyber Teaching Hospital (KTH) in Peshawar, setting an inspiring tone for two days of advanced learning and skill development in bariatric surgery. The event opened with a recitation of the Holy Quran by Mr. Amir Khan, followed by a warm welcome from Prof. Dr. Muzaffar-ud-Din. Dean of Khyber Medical College (KMC), Prof. Dr. Mahmud Aurangzeb, praised the initiative, emphasizing its importance for advancing surgical expertise and enriching medical knowledge.

The Bariatric Surgery Masterclass featured thought-provoking speeches, including a comprehensive overview of Chapter GS presented by Prof. Dr. Mohammad Zarin. Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal’s lecture, titled “The Future of Weight Loss Surgery – Advances and Horizons,” explored upcoming trends and innovations within bariatric surgery. Dr. Muhammad Imran followed with an insightful session on the different types of bariatric procedures, detailing their applications and indications.

The highlight of the day was a series of live surgery demonstrations conducted by a team of distinguished surgeons: Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Mehar, Prof. Ghulam Saddiq, Prof. Dr. Imran Abbas, and Dr. Tahir Younas. These real-time demonstrations allowed participants to gain valuable hands-on insights into advanced bariatric techniques. Day one set a strong foundation for skill enhancement and knowledge sharing, building anticipation for a dynamic second day of the masterclass.
