In a forward-looking statement, PU VC on Emerging Technology at school level emphasized the urgent need for integrating modern science and advanced technological subjects into early education. Speaking at the ‘Scientists Convention’ held at Al Raazi Hall as part of Pakistan Science Foundation’s (PSF) Golden Jubilee celebrations, Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Ali said Pakistan must prepare its younger generation to address critical issues such as food security, climate change, and cyber threats through foundational knowledge in STEM fields.
The high-profile event, themed “Science for Socio-Economic Development,” was co-hosted by the Punjab University Institute of Botany, PSF, and the Pakistan Academy of Sciences. Distinguished guests included Former Federal Minister for Food Security and President of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences Dr Kauser Abdullah Malik, PSF Director of Research Dr Mirza Habib Ali, Prof Emeritus Dr Ikram-ul-Haq, PU Dean of Agricultural Sciences Prof Dr Saleem Haider, and Additional Director of PASTIC Mr Ali Raza Khan, along with leading scientists, researchers, faculty, and students.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Muhammad Ali warned that unchecked urbanization is reducing arable land, while Lahore faces an alarming decline in groundwater levels, heightening the risk of drought. He stressed the role of scientists from PSF and PAS in helping the government develop integrated strategies around water conservation, sustainable agriculture, food preservation, and environmental resilience.
He reiterated that PU VC on Emerging Technology at school level is not just an educational reform but a national need, aiming to instill critical thinking skills in students from an early age. The Vice Chancellor highlighted various university-led initiatives that promote student welfare and safeguard educational quality at Punjab University.
Dr Kauser Abdullah Malik also underscored the importance of aligning science and policy to meet the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. He called for inclusive, sustainable, and collaborative actions to overcome socioeconomic challenges and ensure environmental protection.
The emphasis on PU VC on Emerging Technology at school level reflects a broader vision for national progress—where equipping students with scientific literacy and technological aptitude from school age becomes central to Pakistan’s future.
