The Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIK) recently held a lively two-day book fair, drawing in a large number of students, faculty members, and book lovers from various fields, particularly engineering and management. The event kicked off on Wednesday, inaugurated by GIK’s Rector, Prof. Dr. Fazal Ahmad Khalid, alongside senior faculty members and department heads in the main library. Prof. Khalid highlighted that the fair offered a unique opportunity for faculty to select specialized books for their disciplines, with the Institute committing to purchase these selections for its library, enhancing access for students and faculty alike.
During his visit to the stalls, Prof. Khalid, accompanied by the deans, explored a variety of new publications, selecting titles that would keep the campus community informed in an ever-evolving academic landscape. Mohammad Riaz, head of the Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIK) library, shared that 16 suppliers and booksellers from Lahore and Islamabad showcased a wide range of books across engineering, management, social sciences, literature, history, and current affairs. Many sellers provided discounts ranging from 25% to 50%, making quality books more accessible. Imran Aslam, a bookseller from Islamabad, expressed that the fair not only boosted sales but also allowed for meaningful interaction with students, encouraging them to visit his store for future needs.
Sadia Asghar, a data science student, noted that these fairs are rare opportunities to find discounted books, which are not often available at such rates in stores. Many students gravitated towards literature, citing its benefits in improving English language skills, particularly vocabulary, writing, and speaking fluency.
