In a momentous event, the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) hosted its 57th Convocation, conferring degrees to over 1,050 specialists, including 955 Fellows and 95 Members. The ceremony was honored by the presence of the Speaker of the National Assembly of Pakistan, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, as the Chief Guest.
The event commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Dr. Umar Masood Gondal, setting a solemn tone for the proceedings. Attendees included CPSP officials, council members, heads of medical institutions, senior professors, notable members of the medical fraternity, and the proud families of the Fellows, representing all four provinces of the country.
During the ceremony, College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP) Councillor Major General Mazhar Ishaq administered an oath to the participants, emphasizing honesty, a commitment to serving humanity, and adherence to professional ethics. President Professor Muhammad Shoaib Shafi warmly congratulated the Fellows and their families, commending their dedication and hard work. He extended heartfelt gratitude to Chief Guest Sardar Ayaz Sadiq for his invaluable support, particularly in addressing Fellows’ registration concerns, a gesture highly appreciated nationwide.
Professor Shoaib Shafi reiterated the importance of increasing postgraduate training seats and introducing advanced medical programs at the district level. Highlighting the critical need for Emergency Medicine departments in major hospitals, he acknowledged the contributions of former Health Minister Dr. Jamal Nasir in expanding postgraduate training programs at District Headquarters (DHQ) hospitals.
Gold medals were awarded to Dr. Danial Ahmad Kamal, Dr. Iqra Ghous, Dr. Umar Younas, and Dr. Muhammad Waleed Babar for their exceptional achievements. Internationally renowned professionals, including Major General Azhar Mehmood Kayani, Dr. Amir Ali Syed, and Professor Zubair Ikram, received honorary fellowships for their outstanding contributions to medicine.
In his address, Chief Guest Sardar Ayaz Sadiq lauded CPSP as a leading institution for medical education and research. He congratulated the Fellows, urging them to dedicate their expertise to the betterment of humanity. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting CPSP, emphasizing the integration of advanced technology and fostering research to elevate patient care standards.
The convocation concluded with CPSP President Professor Muhammad Shoaib Shafi and Senior Vice President Professor Khalid Masood Gondal conferring degrees upon the successful Fellows and presenting shields to the Chief Guest. Professor Shafi expressed sincere gratitude to all attendees, marking the event as a significant milestone in CPSP’s enduring legacy of excellence and contributions to the advancement of the medical profession.
