The Second International Conference on Plant Sciences & Expo 2024 (ICPSE-2024) kicked off at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) on Tuesday. This three-day event, themed “Plant Biodiversity and Food Security in the Wake of Climate Change (PBFS-CC),” focuses on the critical role of plant biodiversity in addressing global food security amid climate change challenges.
Plant Sciences & Expo 2024 (ICPSE-2024) Organized by the Faculty of Sciences at PMAS-AAUR, in collaboration with the Pakistan Science Foundation, Higher Education Commission of Pakistan, and Punjab Higher Education Commission, the event brings together a diverse group of participants. Renowned botanists, ecologists, agricultural experts, herbalists, and industry professionals from seven countries are engaging in discussions, exhibitions, and presentations to share the latest research and innovations.
The conference features plenary lectures from distinguished speakers and presentations from researchers. With 200 abstracts submitted by scholars from 100 institutions across Pakistan, the event showcases the country’s growing commitment to addressing food security through scientific collaboration and innovation.
At the inaugural ceremony, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Mukhtar, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Islamabad, served as the chief guest. In his keynote speech, he highlighted the pressing need to address climate change’s impact on agriculture and food security. Stressing the importance of research-based planning, he called for strengthened collaboration between academia, agricultural experts, farmers, and industry stakeholders to achieve sustainable agricultural growth. Dr. Mukhtar also commended the organizers for creating a valuable platform for researchers and scientists to exchange ideas and advance solutions for global challenges.
The ICPSE-2024 serves as a dynamic forum for fostering partnerships and sharing innovative approaches to ensure a resilient and sustainable agricultural future.
