American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence

Inspiring the next generation starts with empowering today’s educators.

Education Secretary Mohyuddin Ahmed Wani highlighted the pivotal importance of continuous professional development in transforming the education sector at the closing ceremony of a teacher training programme conducted by the American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE).

Addressing the attendees, Mr. Wani encouraged participants to actively disseminate the knowledge and skills gained during the training to their peers, emphasizing the long-term benefits of shared learning. “Empowering educators with innovative teaching strategies and leadership practices ensures they are equipped to deliver impactful learning experiences and inspire the next generation,” he remarked.

He further outlined the ministry’s commitment to competency-based education, which goes beyond academic content to focus on critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and adaptability. “This approach not only enhances students’ academic achievements but also prepares them for real-world challenges, fostering well-rounded individuals,” he added.

The eight-day Professional Teaching Knowledge (PTK) programme was a collaborative effort between the Ministry of Education and  American Board for Certification of Teacher Excellence (ABCTE), with support from Overseas Pakistanis. Designed to enhance the pedagogical and leadership skills of teachers and administrators under the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE), the programme offered in-depth training on effective teaching methods, curriculum planning, classroom management, and data-driven instructional design.

Key features included interactive workshops, peer collaboration, and hands-on activities, with a focus on integrating technology to promote collective learning. The blended learning initiative, launched in August 2023, initially trained 30 FDE master trainers. Since April 2024, it has expanded to benefit over 1,100 school principals and senior educators.

So far, the programme has delivered pedagogical leadership training to 588 principals and senior teachers, 59 instructional coaches from the National Institute of Excellence in Teacher Education, and 13 faculty members of the Federal College of Education. Additionally, 335 newly inducted teachers have undergone standardised PTK training, supported by FDE master trainers and ABCTE’s technical expertise.

By prioritizing professional development and collaborative learning, the initiative aims to equip educators with the tools necessary to refine their teaching approaches, ultimately driving the growth and success of the country’s education system.
