Federal Education Secretary reshuffle

Mohiuddin Ahmad Wani’s term ends after key reforms as Education Secretary

In a noteworthy Federal Education Secretary reshuffle, the federal government has appointed senior bureaucrat Nadeem Mahbub as the new secretary of the Federal Education and Professional Training Division. He replaces Mohiuddin Ahmad Wani, a BPS-21 officer of the Pakistan Administrative Service, who has been posted as secretary of the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination. The Federal Education Secretary reshuffle comes at a critical time when the education sector is navigating several reform initiatives and institutional development efforts.

Mohiuddin Ahmad Wani, during his 1.5-year tenure, played a significant role in driving forward key educational reforms. As education secretary, he led the development of Pakistan’s first National Curriculum Framework, focused on promoting STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) education, and pushed for the digital transformation of federal education institutions. His leadership during the launch of several flagship programs—including the School Meal Program and the expansion of smart classroom infrastructure—was widely recognized. The Federal Education Secretary reshuffle marks the end of a period marked by ambitious goal-setting and foundational reforms under Wani’s leadership.

According to the notification from the Establishment Division, Nadeem Mahbub, a BPS-22 PAS officer, was transferred from his role as secretary of the National Health Services, Regulations, and Coordination Division to assume his new responsibilities at the Federal Education and Professional Training Division. His appointment under the Federal Education Secretary reshuffle is effective immediately and will continue until further orders. Upon assuming charge, Mahbub was warmly welcomed by Parliamentary Secretary for Federal Education Farah Naz, who presented him with a bouquet and expressed optimism about his vision to further accelerate reforms and foster innovation in the national education landscape.
