Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute of Engineering Sciences and Technology (GIKI) and Engro Powergen Thar Limited (EPTL) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly explore fly ash utilisation research opportunities stemming from the Thar Coal Power Project. The collaboration aims to develop sustainable solutions for repurposing fly ash in infrastructure and construction.
The MoU was signed by GIKI Rector Prof Dr S M Hassan Zaidi and EPTL General Manager Technical Jahanzeb Dal. Senior academic leaders from GIKI and technical experts from EPTL attended the signing ceremony, highlighting the strategic importance of this partnership.
This fly ash utilisation research initiative will focus on feasibility studies and pilot projects for the use of fly ash in roads, dams, pavements, and precast construction products such as pavers and blocks. Both institutions will also collaborate on joint innovation in energy storage, asset life enhancement, and distance mentorship. GIKI will further contribute to testing procedures and academic-industry training certifications.
Prof Zaidi stressed the role of academia in solving practical challenges, while Jahanzeb Dal reaffirmed EPTL’s dedication to driving sustainable growth through fly ash utilisation research and academic collaboration.
