US Ambassador Donald Blome celebrated the increasing number of Pakistani students pursuing higher education in the United States, describing it as a testament to the deepening educational partnership between the two nations. Speaking at the annual EducationUSA High Achievers’ and Counsellors’ Recognition Ceremony, held during International Education Week, he revealed record-breaking statistics for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 academic years.
Ambassador Blome highlighted that 10,000 Pakistani students enrolled in US universities in 2022-23, making Pakistan the 16th largest sender of international students to the US. He proudly announced a new milestone for 2023-24, with 11,000 students attending US institutions, moving Pakistan up to 15th place globally. “This is the highest number ever recorded, and I hope many of you here will join this growing community of scholars,” he said, addressing the high achievers.
The ambassador underscored EducationUSA’s critical role in providing free, expert guidance to students on selecting US universities, applying for scholarships, and crafting compelling applications. Reflecting on his own experience helping his children with college applications, he praised the initiative for making the journey smoother for students and families alike.
US Ambassador Donald Blome also emphasized the role of school counsellors in guiding students through the vast landscape of over 4,000 US higher education institutions. Recognizing their efforts, he announced the US Embassy’s plan to sponsor additional school counsellors for visits to the United States. “This will deepen their understanding of the US education system, equipping them to better assist students in making informed decisions,” he noted.
Encouraging students to express gratitude to their families, he said, “Take a moment to thank your parents and loved ones for their unwavering support.” He also highlighted the inspirational success stories of Pakistani students who returned from the US as leaders in their fields, showcasing the transformative power of international education.
In closing, Ambassador Blome congratulated the students and counsellors for their ambition, dedication, and optimism, expressing hope to welcome more Pakistani scholars to the US in the future. “As you explore your career goals, scholarships, and university applications, I encourage you to keep the United States in mind. We look forward to having you contribute to the shared success of our nations.”
