Dow University of Health Sciences

Congratulations to the 2,523 graduates of DUHS—your journey starts now!

Sindh Governor and Chancellor of Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS), Kamran Tessori, has called on female medical and dental graduates to actively engage in the healthcare sector, urging them not to let their qualifications go to waste. Speaking as the guest of honor at DUHS’s 14th convocation, Tessori emphasized that thousands of female doctors in Pakistan are not practicing, which is a significant loss to the healthcare system.

Addressing the graduates and their families at the Ojha Campus Cricket Ground, Tessori appealed to mothers and families to support their daughters in pursuing their careers and serving the nation. He stressed the importance of empowering women in medicine for the country’s growth, especially as the world rapidly evolves.

Congratulating the 2,523 graduates, including four PhDs, Tessori encouraged them to apply the same dedication in their professional lives as they did in their studies. Drawing inspiration from Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem, he highlighted that success in Pakistan is achievable through hard work and determination, rather than relying solely on resources.

He also praised the global impact of Pakistani doctors and urged graduates to stay in the country, contribute to its development, and value their homeland. Tessori reminded them to approach life with positivity, gratitude, and trust in Allah’s sustenance.

In his address, DUHS Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Saeed Quraishy discussed the transformative impact of artificial intelligence in medicine, focusing on the shift toward precision medicine. He assured the graduates that DUHS is staying ahead by offering cutting-edge facilities and introducing new programs like molecular medicine, forensic science, and cardiovascular technology.

Prof Nazli Hossain, DUHS Pro VC, spoke about the challenges of adapting to evolving medical technologies and encouraged graduates to uphold the legacy of DUHS while continuously learning. The convocation also recognized academic excellence, awarding 78 medals, including gold, silver, and bronze, to top-performing students across the university’s 14 institutes and colleges. Special recognition was given to Eisha Farid, Izma Khan, and Mashook Rahim for their exceptional achievements.

DUHS also conferred degrees across various disciplines, including dental sciences, pharmacy, and nursing, with the Dow Medical College producing 327 graduates and Dow International Medical College 137. DMC Principal Prof Saba Sohail congratulated the graduates and reminded them of their responsibility to contribute to society and create positive change as DUHS ambassadors.
