DG Kathia Shares Key Insights with UHS Students During PDMA Visit

A delegation of students from the University of Health Sciences (UHS) visited the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab on Friday to learn about its disaster management system and operational framework. During the visit, the UHS students were provided with a comprehensive overview of how PDMA manages natural disasters and supports disaster-affected communities.

The UHS students visited the PDMA Control Room, where Director General (DG) Irfan Ali Kathia shared details about the authority’s round-the-clock communication system with districts across Punjab. DG Kathia also explained the critical role of PDMA in responding to emergencies such as floods, dengue outbreaks, droughts, smog, and heat waves. The UHS students were particularly interested in the authority’s efforts to issue advance warnings and alerts regarding potential disasters like heat waves, heavy rainfall, and flooding.

During their visit, the UHS students were introduced to PDMA’s flood simulation model, which demonstrated the authority’s preparedness and response mechanisms. The students asked several insightful questions about PDMA’s operations, rehabilitation programs, and how it supports victims of natural disasters. DG Kathia reassured the UHS students that financial assistance is provided to disaster-affected families under the Punjab government’s policies.

At the conclusion of the visit, the UHS students expressed their appreciation for the proactive measures taken by the Punjab government in rehabilitating flood victims. To mark the occasion, DG Kathia presented a commemorative shield to the delegation of UHS students as a gesture of gratitude. The visit served as an important learning experience for the UHS students, providing them with valuable insights into disaster management and response strategies.
