Emerging technologies: A gateway to Pakistan’s economic future

Provincial Minister for Education Rana Sikander Hayat emphasized the critical role of collaboration between educational institutions and the industrial sector to drive research and innovation. He made these remarks while speaking at the launch of the 17th annual report, titled “The State of the Economy: Beyond the Horizon – The Frontier of Emerging Technologies, at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) on Thursday. The event was attended by UET Vice Chancellor Dr. Shahid Munir, along with other key figures including Dr. Nizamuddin, Shahid Najam, Shahid Javed Barki, and Dr. Farrukh Iqbal.

The report focuses on the current state of the economy and highlights government efforts to promote emerging technologies. It provides an in-depth review of technologies such as AI, blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT), examining their economic impact and the opportunities they present for national growth. These technologies, at the frontier of emerging technologies, are transforming industries and economies worldwide.

Rana Sikander Hayat remarked on the immense potential of these technologies, saying, “The frontier of emerging technologies is opening new doors for economic growth. Pakistan must understand and capitalize on these innovations to stay ahead.” He further emphasized the need to equip educators with modern technologies, particularly AI, to better prepare students for the challenges of the future.

The minister also discussed the government’s initiatives, including AI training programs and collaboration with Google to boost the tech sector. He stressed the importance of universities expanding technology-related programs, calling for an increase in the number of seats in these programs to equip the youth for success and improve the country’s financial outlook. “By embracing the frontier of emerging technologies, we can create a workforce that drives economic development and enhances national prosperity,” he stated.
