FJWU leads Pakistan’s first-ever AI law competition, empowering legal innovators

Fatima Jinnah Women University (FJWU), through its Department of Law, proudly hosted Pakistan’s first-ever AI governance law challenge at FJWU, a pioneering Regulatory Innovation Challenge under the theme “Legislative Drafting and Policy Competition on AI Governance.” This landmark event was held at FJWU’s City Campus in Rawalpindi and set the stage for nationwide student-led legal reform in emerging technologies.

Organized by Sehrish Saba Raja & Associates Legal Clinic and Research Centre in collaboration with The Society 5.0 Initiative, Law Students’ Council Pakistan, and other esteemed partners, the competition brought together 11 teams from prominent universities and think tanks. Participants presented creative legislative and policy proposals addressing Artificial Intelligence (AI) governance and regulatory gaps in Pakistan. The AI governance law challenge at FJWU served as a prelude to the upcoming AI Festival 2025 (May 10-11), aiming to ignite national conversation on the future of tech law.

The Opening Ceremony featured distinguished guests including Huma Chughtai, Member National Assembly; Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza, Vice Chancellor of FJWU; and Sanaullah Zahid, Additional Attorney General of Pakistan. They emphasized the importance of student participation in drafting tech-forward policies for the digital era.

The event culminated in a Closing Ceremony graced by Justice (r) Musheer Alam, former judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, as chief guest. Other guests of honour included Justice (r) Muhammad Nawaz Wahla, Umar Baig (AI Expert), and Dr. Ayesha Nazuk (Statistical Analysis Expert). A panel of multidisciplinary experts judged the proposals based on creativity, feasibility, and societal impact.

All winners received certificates and the unique opportunity to present their proposals at AI Festival 2025, cementing their role in influencing national-level AI policy frameworks.

This groundbreaking initiative marks a significant academic and legal milestone, reinforcing FJWU’s commitment to innovation, critical thinking, and empowering the next generation of legal thinkers through the AI governance law challenge at FJWU.
