The Second Dosti Peshawar Women’s Literature Festival commenced at Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Women University (SBBWU), Peshawar, offering a vibrant platform to celebrate women’s contributions to literature, culture, and society. Organized in collaboration with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Culture and Tourism Authority (KPCTA), Bank of Khyber, and the National Commission for Human Development (NCHD), the festival will run until November 29.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, KPCTA Director General Tashfeen Haider emphasized the significance of such initiatives in portraying a positive and inclusive image of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. “Literature has always been a bridge for peace, unity, and harmony. Events like this empower women to face societal challenges with confidence,” he remarked.
The Second Dosti Peshawar Women’s Literature festival was attended by esteemed academics, faculty, and students, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Safia Ahmad, Dr. Hamida, Sameera Gul, Saniya Siraj, Dr. Zarmena Baloch, and Fariha Sami. Dr. Ahmad highlighted the university’s dedication to fostering a nurturing environment that enables women to develop their skills and showcase their potential on national and global platforms.
Tashfeen Haider noted the critical role of cultural and literary events in promoting women’s self-expression and creativity, particularly in regions where peace and social order are ongoing challenges. “Providing a safe and positive space for women is essential in building their confidence and enhancing their societal awareness,” he added.
The festival not only celebrates the literary achievements of women but also reinforces the importance of cultural and intellectual activities in shaping a more progressive and inclusive society.
