Lights, Camera, Action! PU’s first-ever film festival celebrates student creativity.

The Punjab University (PU) Department of Film and Broadcasting held its first-ever PU film festival at Hameed Nizami Hall, marking a milestone in the university’s efforts to foster creativity and innovation in the arts.

The event was graced by prominent figures including Prof Dr. Lubna Zaheer, Chairperson of the Department of Film and Broadcasting, Prof Dr. Nosheena Saleem, Director of the School of Communication Studies, acclaimed film director Asad Malik, and renowned writer Amna Mufti. Faculty members and a large number of students also attended, creating an atmosphere buzzing with inspiration and artistic energy.

The PU film festival  showcased an impressive lineup of short films created by the students, reflecting a diverse array of themes such as social issues, cultural narratives, and personal storytelling. The films served as a testament to the students’ creative prowess and their ability to use the cinematic medium to spark conversations and bring fresh perspectives to the forefront.

Speaking at the occasion, Prof Dr. Lubna Zaheer emphasized the significance of platforms like this PU film festival in nurturing emerging talent. She said, “The festival is not just a celebration of cinematic art but also an opportunity for students to engage with the technical and creative aspects of filmmaking, setting the foundation for them to excel in the media industry.”

Film director Asad Malik lauded the students for their innovative storytelling and encouraged them to explore uncharted territories in the world of cinema. He remarked, “Young filmmakers have the power to redefine narratives and bring about social change through their work. Festivals like these are the starting point of great journeys.”

Writer Amna Mufti praised the department’s initiative and highlighted the importance of storytelling as a tool for cultural and social expression.

The PU film festival  concluded with an awards ceremony recognizing the best films, performances, and technical contributions. The students expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to showcase their work and engage with industry professionals, describing the event as an unforgettable learning experience.
