Punjab University (PU) is set to introduce a range of allied health sciences programmes next year, addressing the growing shortage of skilled professionals in the field and advancing its portfolio of professional degree offerings. This announcement was made by PU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali, during an academic council meeting attended by deans, departmental heads, and senior professors.
The council approved the transfer of the Centre of Excellence in Applied Molecular Biology (CAMB) to the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences to support these new programmes. Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali emphasized the importance of skill-based education, stating that the university would secure approvals from relevant councils before launching the new degrees. He reiterated Punjab University (PU) commitment to bridging the human resource gap in allied health sciences through innovative and professionally oriented academic programmes.
To further enhance PU’s operations, the meeting approved several other recommendations, including:
- Free education and accommodation for 10 students each from Palestine and Lebanon.
- The closure of the inactive Centre for Econometrics and Quantitative Methods under the School of Economics.
- Curriculum updates for various programmes to align with modern educational and industry requirements.
The VC also highlighted plans to consolidate inactive departments to improve the university’s rankings and ensure resources are used efficiently. Faculty members commended Dr. Muhammad Ali’s inclusive leadership and democratic approach in making decisions for the university’s betterment.
