Revolutionizing recruitment in Pakistan’s health sector—HSA leads the way

The Health Services Academy (HSA) has reached a historic milestone by successfully completing comprehensive screening tests for major health sector institutions. These include the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), District Health Office (DHO) Islamabad, Federal Medical College (FMC), Federal Government Polyclinic, and the National Institute of Rehabilitation Medicine (NIRM).

The recruitment process, carried out in two phases—typing and written assessments—was the result of three months of detailed planning and seamless execution. This effort reaffirmed HSA’s dedication to transparent, fair, and efficient hiring practices, setting a new standard in Pakistan’s health sector recruitment. Over 100,000 candidates from across the country participated, with 48,000 undergoing advanced typing and shorthand assessments.

To ensure accuracy, a cutting-edge computer lab with 250 fully equipped workstations was set up. The process was overseen by a team of experts, guaranteeing precision in every phase. Advanced grading technologies, such as Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) systems, were utilized to ensure fairness, while quota-based categorization further enhanced transparency. Support from public sector entities, including the Police, Secretariat Training Institutes, and the National Institute of Health (NIH), played a vital role in maintaining security and operational efficiency.

Expressing his gratitude, Chief Examiner and Director of Quality Assurance Nadeem Sajjad Kayani acknowledged the tireless efforts of all involved. “This achievement reflects the dedication and collaboration of our teams. I extend special thanks to the Secretary of Health, The Health Services Academy (HSA) Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan, and other institutional leaders for their unwavering support,” he said.

Prof. Dr. Shahzad Ali Khan commended the Academy’s initiative, emphasizing its pioneering role in transforming recruitment processes. “This accomplishment highlights HSA’s growing leadership in managing high-stakes projects and its commitment to advancing national health goals,” he remarked.

By integrating advanced technologies and collaborative efforts, HSA has not only modernized recruitment practices but also set a precedent for future initiatives in the health sector.
