The third International Conference on Social Sciences, titled ‘Contemporary World Challenges and Opportunities,’ kicked off today at Rawalpindi Women University (RWU). The two-day event brings together both local and international social scientists to discuss pressing socio-psychological issues and explore sustainable solutions to address them.
The third International Conference on Social Sciences was inaugurated by Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), who emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in reshaping societal behavior. In his keynote address, Dr. Mukhtar highlighted the critical role of academia, students, and parents in addressing these challenges. He also underscored the need for a more responsible and informed approach to information consumption, warning that the overwhelming flow of online content has diminished individual intellect.
“Information available on the internet should be critically analyzed and cross-checked,” Dr. Mukhtar said. “Human behavior, and its underlying socio-psychological factors, have a profound impact on societal norms and values.” He urged educators to dedicate some time during lectures to discuss human behavior, stressing that collective efforts in this regard could help make Pakistan a more prosperous nation.
Prof. Dr. Anila Kamal, Vice Chancellor of RWU, delivered the presidential address, highlighting the university’s commitment to addressing key issues in human psychology. She also provided an overview of RWU’s ongoing contributions to academic discourse through previous conferences.
In the opening session, Dr. Agata Gasiorowska from SWPS University in Wroclaw, Poland, presented her research on the concept of gratitude and its correlation with financial objectivity. Her study, which involved statistical analysis of gratitude’s relationship with monetary values, received widespread acclaim from the audience.
Dr. Gasiorowska praised RWU for hosting such an important international event and for addressing critical topics in social sciences. The conference is expected to bring together numerous academic experts and researchers, focusing on a range of socio-economic and psychological issues affecting societies globally.
The inaugural session saw a large turnout of faculty, students, and researchers, all eager to participate in the discussion and contribute to solutions for contemporary social challenges.
