Fatima Jinnah Women University’s (FJWU) Student Affairs Office, in collaboration with the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), hosted an empowering summit titled “Trailblazing the STEM: A Journey of Leadership and Legacy.”
The event celebrated the groundbreaking achievements of women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) while inspiring the next generation of leaders to embrace impactful careers in these transformative fields.
A panel of esteemed speakers took center stage, sharing personal journeys and actionable strategies to overcome gender barriers in STEM. Notable panelists included:
- Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza (PoP, T.I) – Vice Chancellor, FJWU
- Prof. Dr. Bina Siddique (S.I, T.I) – President, OWSD
- Prof. Dr. Azra Khanum – Vice President, OWSD, and former Dean of Science, PMAS Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi
- Prof. Dr. Farida Tahir – Professor of Physics, COMSATS
- Prof. Dr. Sitwat – Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, Karachi
Moderated by Prof. Dr. Saima Saleem, Secretary of OWSD, the discussion highlighted success stories, challenges overcome, and practical advice for excelling in STEM careers. The summit also featured an interactive exhibition wall showcasing the contributions and legacies of influential women in STEM.
A particularly inspiring segment came from outstanding students from FJWU’s Departments of Biotechnology, Environmental Sciences, Software Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Sciences. These young achievers shared their academic and professional milestones, igniting hope and ambition in their peers.
Adding to the summit’s impact, a video presentation unveiled Fatima Jinnah Women University’s (FJWU’s) cutting-edge research, pioneering teaching practices, and globally recognized faculty achievements, reinforcing the university’s leadership in STEM education.
The event concluded on a high note with Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Bushra Mirza presenting a special souvenir to Dr. Farida Tahir, commemorating her remarkable contributions to STEM.
