The Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, in collaboration with the National Curriculum Council (NCC), officially launched the National Curriculum Summit 2024 at the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU). This landmark event reflects the government’s commitment to reshaping Pakistan’s education system to meet modern standards and global demands.
The two-day summit, concluding on Wednesday, brings together a diverse group of education stakeholders, including policymakers, curriculum experts, educators, and thought leaders. It serves as a platform to discuss innovative approaches to education reform, focusing on introducing new academic streams, subjects, and study schemes at the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) levels.
In his opening remarks, Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani, Federal Secretary for the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, expressed his appreciation for the active participation of attendees. He praised the NCC for its instrumental role in driving curriculum reforms, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in modernizing Pakistan’s educational framework. “The valuable insights and suggestions gathered at this summit will be integrated into the ongoing curriculum reform process,” Wani assured.
Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal delivered a thought-provoking keynote address, highlighting the government’s long-term vision for education. He revisited the transformative initiatives launched during the PML-N government’s tenure (2013-2018), which faced setbacks in subsequent years but have now been reignited. These initiatives aim to align Pakistan’s education system with global standards, ensuring that the curricula remain relevant in a rapidly evolving world.
Reflecting on recent advancements, Wani underscored the remarkable progress made in reviewing and updating Pakistan’s existing scheme of studies in just six months. “The reforms are designed to address the challenges of the 21st century, equipping students with skills and knowledge that reflect the demands of the modern era,” he stated.
The summit also includes a series of engaging panel discussions and keynote speeches featuring prominent voices from the education sector. These sessions aim to generate actionable insights for building a robust, inclusive, and future-ready education system.
As the National Curriculum Summit 2024 progresses, it promises to serve as a cornerstone for the transformation of Pakistan’s educational landscape, fostering a collaborative effort to redefine learning and knowledge development across the country.
