Two women top Dow VC candidate list

The names of three top candidates have been shortlisted in the Dow VC selection process underway for the position of vice chancellor at Dow University of Health Sciences (DUHS). These include two female pro vice chancellors of DUHS — Professor Dr Nazli Hussain (first place) and Professor Dr Jahan Ara (second place) — while the third spot is held by the head of the ENT Department at Karachi Metropolitan University.

These shortlisted names will now be sent for clearance by intelligence agencies. Following clearance, the Sindh chief minister will approve one of the candidates. The Dow VC selection process underway marks a significant step toward finalizing the new leadership of one of Pakistan’s premier medical universities.

Interviews for the position were conducted on Wednesday, May 7, and Thursday, May 8. In a first for the university, the expert panel included two senior professors from DUHS — former vice chancellor Dr Saeed Qureshi and retired grade-20 professor Dr Kartar Dewani. The Dow VC selection process underway reflects growing inclusivity and institutional input in high-level academic appointments.

Out of 23 applicants, 17 candidates were shortlisted. Among the applicants were notable names such as Dr Amjad Siraj Memon, Dr Anila Atta-ur-Rehman, Dr Shahid Rasool, Dr Fahad Jibran, Dr Mushtaq Ali Jakhrani, Dr Syed Masroor Ahmed, Dr Arshad Hussain Abro, Professor Aurangzeb Sheikh, and Dr Iftikhar Ali Shalwani, among others.
